Ikigai Apparel didn’t begin in a studio or a boardroom.

It started on a cold morning in Ascot, behind the hot plate in a marquee within a forest, where our founder was cooking omelettes for the cast and crew of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Season 2.

In the quiet moments between orders, the question hit him:

“Why not use this time to build something of my own?”

With a background in art and design, and surrounded daily by creatives chasing their purpose, the idea for Ikigai Apparel started to take shape. Clothing that wasn’t just worn, but lived in. Durable, comfortable, and intentional. Pieces that could withstand long nights in the studio, early-morning shoots, edits that go past sunrise, and every moment a creative pushes through to find their voice.

The name comes from Japanese:

“Iki” : to live

“Gai” : reason or purpose

Ikigai represents the reason you get out of bed in the morning.

These suppliers share our values, using responsibly sourced fabrics such as organic cotton and recycled polyester to create garments built to last.

Although our base garments are manufactured globally, every Ikigai item is printed and embroidered here in the United Kingdom, with production handled in Wolverhampton and Blackburn.

This allows us to maintain high quality standards while supporting local manufacturing and ensuring every piece meets the level of craftsmanship our brand stands for.
